Hi, I’m Mehtab Ahmed, and I’ve spent the last 15 years designing, programming, and troubleshooting industrial automation and electrical control systems across manufacturing plants, power facilities, and industrial sites.
My Background
I’m a licensed electrical engineer specializing in industrial control systems with hands-on experience that goes beyond theory. Here’s my journey:
Education & Credentials:
– B.Sc. Electrical Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), 2010
– 15 years of practical experience in PLC, SCADA, DCS, and electrical systems
– Expert in Siemens, Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Schneider Electric platforms
– NEC code compliance and industrial electrical design
My Experience:
– PLC Programming: Ladder logic, structured text, function blocks across multiple platforms
– SCADA/HMI Systems: FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition
– DCS Experience: Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, Yokogawa systems
– Electrical Design: Motor control centers, VFD integration, power distribution
– Industries: Manufacturing, oil & gas, utilities, chemical processing
Real Projects I’ve Worked On:
– Commissioned automated production lines with 50+ I/O points
– Troubleshot complex SCADA systems during plant emergencies
– Designed electrical panels meeting NEC and local codes
– Integrated PLCs with existing legacy systems
– Trained plant engineers on control system maintenance
Why I Created Industrial Control Academy
After 15 years in the field, I noticed a huge gap between what’s taught in classrooms and what actually happens on the plant floor at 2 AM when a system goes down.
I’ve spent countless hours:
– Debugging PLC code that “worked in simulation” but failed in production
– Explaining to young engineers why their textbook solution won’t work with our 20-year-old equipment
– Finding practical solutions that work in real facilities, not just on paper
Industrial Control Academy started as my personal notebook – a place where I documented real solutions to real problems. The kind of problems that don’t show up in manufacturer manuals:
– What to do when your VFD keeps tripping and the manual just says “check parameters”
– How to actually size a cable when you have voltage drop, heating, and NEC all fighting each other
– Why your GFCI keeps nuisance tripping and what the real fix is
I realized other engineers and technicians were facing the same frustrations. So I decided to share what I’ve learned, the hard way over 15 years of practical work.
What Makes This Site Different
This isn’t another site recycling manufacturer specs or copying Wikipedia. Every article here comes from:
✅ Real experience: I’ve actually done this work, not just read about it
✅ Practical focus: Solutions that work on actual plant floors
✅ No BS approach: I tell you what works and what doesn’t
✅ Free tools: Calculators I built because I needed them myself
My Expertise Areas
Industrial Automation:
– PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider)
– SCADA/HMI design and integration
– DCS systems configuration
– Industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)
Electrical Systems:
– NEC code compliance for industrial installations
– Motor control and VFD applications
– Power distribution design
– Cable sizing and voltage drop calculations
– Circuit breaker selection and coordination
– GFCI and arc fault protection
Control Panel Design:
– Electrical schematic design
– Panel layout and wiring
– Component selection
– Testing and commissioning
What I’m Currently Working On
I continue to work on industrial automation projects while maintaining this site. I’m based in Lahore, Pakistan, and work with clients across multiple countries.
When I’m not programming PLCs or troubleshooting control systems, I’m:
– Creating practical guides and calculators for this site
– Answering questions from engineers worldwide
– Learning about new automation technologies
– Sharing lessons learned from decades of combined experience (mine and my colleagues)
